Trim serves both a decorative and protective function. Trim is usually
made of aluminum, wood, or vinyl. Trim along the edges of a building can
improve its appearance. The trim also helps keep rain and wind out of
Wood trim also
requires periodic painting and repairs. If the trim is made of wood, there
may be rotted or damaged.
Aluminum and vinyl trim do not require frequent painting, however it can
be painted to match certain color schemes of a home. Aluminum and vinyl
trim also require less maintenance than wood trim. Aluminum or vinyl trim
is often placed over wood trim to cover underlying damage and reduce maintenance.
An aluminum bending break is used to bend coil stock to match or cover
the existing trim work of a house.
Each dimension of the trim pieces is carefully measured and transferred
to the bending break.
Raising the handle of the break creates a clean bend in the aluminum that
if the measurements are correct will fit over the existing trim.
Trim pieces are nailed in place with aluminum nails. Be careful when nailing
not to put hammer marks into the new trim pieces.
